Meet Heather

(she, her, hers)

Dr. Heather Hunt has a profound respect and appreciation for the courage it takes to initiate contact and start therapy. To finally make the all-important decision that “I matter” and “I am done trying to figure this out on my own” are thoughts coming from a place of strength, not failure. There is zero shame in wanting to live to your maximum potential and lead a well-managed and productive life. It is wholly wrong and unfair to be met with barriers in communication when seeking therapy.

As the founder of My Deaf Therapy, Heather aims to remove these barriers to mental health counseling and psychotherapy. Telehealth makes this much more doable. She will be expanding mental health services by continually adding on more ASL fluent and linguistically accessible counselors, psychotherapists, and clinicians who are experienced, culturally inclusive, and affirmative.

Heather is a Deaf clinical psychologist who goes by the pronouns she/her/hers and is fluent in ASL. In her practice, she provides you with a supportive, non-judgmental, caring space where you can truly delve into understanding how to address and manage the problems that have caused you distress. In this endeavor, you will learn more about yourself--how you think, relate, feel, and behave in ways that will allow you to shift from a place of stagnance to empowerment.

EXPERIENCE

Dr. Heather Hunt is a clinical psychologist with over twenty years of experience. She manages a fully online private practice focused on treating adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families who use sign language to communicate. They may or may not belong to the capital “D” deaf community. Everyone is welcomed to her practice regardless of how they identify. Her genuine deep regard for her clients and their experiences resonates, allowing clients to feel safe to share their vulnerabilities with her.

Heather also provides consultation and supervision of licensed mental health professionals.

Heather is a member of the American Psychological Association.
