Heather Hunt, PhD
Founder | CEO | Clinical Director
Meet Heather
(she, her, hers)
Dr. Heather Hunt is a Deaf licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of My Deaf Therapy™ (MDT), the nation’s largest telehealth provider of mental health services tailored to Deaf, Deaf+, DeafBlind, Late Deafened, and hard of hearing individuals. Driven by her commitment to accessible, culturally and linguistically affirming care, Dr. Hunt established MDT to address the longstanding shortage of ASL-fluent mental health providers.
As CEO, Dr. Hunt leads the organization’s strategic growth and operations, ensuring MDT remains aligned with its mission to expand equitable access to high-quality mental health care for the Deaf community. Under her leadership, MDT engages in national outreach, education, and advocacy efforts, including trainings, workshops, and consultation with organizations to promote appropriate, accessible mental health referrals and services.
As Clinical Director, Dr. Hunt oversees clinical quality, supervision, and training across the organization. She leads MDT’s internship and supervision programs, supporting Deaf and ASL-fluent clinicians in their development from trainees to independently licensed providers. Recognizing the critical shortage of culturally and linguistically competent supervision, she has built a training model that expands the pipeline of qualified clinicians serving the Deaf community.
Through this model, MDT contributes to a sustainable workforce by training graduate students and associate-level clinicians who go on to become licensed providers and, in many cases, supervisors themselves—helping to address systemic gaps in access to care.
MDT provides mental health services to individuals, couples, and families who communicate primarily through sign language, including hearing individuals who are meaningfully connected to the Deaf community (e.g., CODAs, KODAs, interpreters, family members, and partners). MDT welcomes clients across the full spectrum of hearing and communication identities.
The term “deaf” is used inclusively to reflect the community’s diverse identity spectrum, including but not limited to Deaf, deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind, Deaf+, and Late Deafened.
