Meet Barry

(he, him, his)

Barry Elliott is a licensed certified social worker with nearly two decades of experience. His approach to therapy is client-centered with a focus on self-discovery. Through his genuine positive regard for his clients, they are empowered to build healthy self-reliance and enhance their self-esteem as they work toward life goals. He views his role in working with clients as similar to that of a mirror, aspiring to go beneath the surface in reflecting the person’s thoughts, emotions, and perceptions. Barry co-navigates alongside clients as they learn to rebuild, grow, support and sustain, a true acceptance of self.

Barry is a Deaf therapist fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). His pronouns are he/him/his.

EXPERIENCE

Barry’s background in working as a school counselor, supervisor of social work interns, home-visit educator, and clinician have given him a unique perspective on providing mental health services across various settings. He has extensive experience working with individuals, families, pre-teens, teens, adults, and couples.

EDUCATION

Barry’s areas of specialty include LGBTQIA+ identities, childhood trauma, PTSD, depression and anxiety disorders. In addition to person-centered therapy, Barry incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) treatments in his work with clients. Barry’s experience working with clients and students within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum since the late 1990s has given him unique insight into the interplay of society’s “catching up” with the generations while providing the sensitive, invaluable clinical support his clients need.
