Meet Heather

(she, hers)

Heather Porter is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern at My Deaf Therapy, currently earning her master’s degree from Grand Canyon University with a focus on trauma-informed care. She brings a deeply compassionate and person-centered approach to the therapy room, shaped by her own lived experience and a strong belief that healing begins when people feel seen and heard.

Heather is late-deafened and fluent in American Sign Language, creating a safe and accessible space for clients in the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and signing communities. Her approach honors the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and recognizes that each client’s journey is unique.

With nearly two decades of experience as a foster and adoptive parent, Heather understands the layered impact of trauma, attachment disruption, and life transitions. She is passionate about supporting individuals and families navigating relationship trauma, grief and loss, identity shifts, and the challenges of adjusting to change. Her work is rooted in empathy, curiosity, and respect for each person's story.

Heather believes that every person deserves a space where they feel valued, understood, and empowered. Whether you're processing past trauma or seeking support through a life transition, she is honored to walk alongside you on your healing path.
