Meet DT

(he, him, his)

David "DT" Bruno, LMSW, is a Deaf Licensed Master Social Worker who is intimately familiar with the adversities that confront those with hearing loss. Originally from New York, DT grew up in a second-generation deaf multicultural household, where he bore witness to numerous disparities stemming from an institution that perpetuates the disadvantage of those with hearing differences and diverse racial identities. After pursuing his Bachelor of Social Work at Gallaudet University, followed by his Master’s degree in Social Work at Columbia University, he developed an appreciation for the perspective he wields based on his own personal hardships, which contribute to his immersive understanding of the important role that cultural and language environments play in one’s mental and emotional well-being. With this insight, he hopes to pay it forward via the mental health services he provides to his clients. Throughout DT’s educational studies, he has armed himself with the experiential knowledge necessary to serve as an advocate and promote the importance of health equity among deaf communities. This passion extends to his work with language-deprived survivors. In addition, DT’s mission is to provide guidance and support to those experiencing grief and bereavement, pain, and/or chronic illness. He endorses a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that is intended to provide his clients with the appropriate tools for proper stress and pain management, emotion regulation, as well as creating and implementing effective coping strategies. He has a particular interest in working with millennial and generation Z clients all while promoting cultural competence at the intersection of race and hearing ability.

DT is a Deaf therapist fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). His pronouns are he/him/his.

EXPERIENCE

DT spent several years in community mental health as an outpatient therapist and is currently teaching MSW courses while providing therapy with My Deaf Therapy.
