Meet Lakeya
(she, her, hers)
Lakeya McCoy is a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA) and fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). She is currently an intern and special education teacher in Maryland, with extensive experience working with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, using ASL as a primary means of communication.
Lakeya has a passion for supporting individuals with various disabilities, including behavioral support needs, in resource classrooms. She is dedicated to working with children from inner-city communities who face a range of mental health challenges, such as trauma and crises, while integrating social-emotional learning into her curriculum. Lakeya is deeply committed to ensuring all individuals have access to inclusive and equitable services, in education, medical, employment, through personalized accommodations, embracing diversity in every aspect.
Lakeya is excited to create a welcoming and safe space where individuals can feel valued, understood, and empowered on their personal growth journeys. As she continues learning and growing in the field, she is committed to offering compassion, empathy, and consistent support to everyone she works with. Lakeya lives in Maryland with her two sons and enjoys dancing and listening to music in her spare time.
