Research and workshops for the deaf community

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We offer a space to continue active growth and learning, where everyone benefits from supporting researchers dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the Deaf Community. By engaging in research studies and workshops, we create an open dialogue about mental health—an essential topic for everyone. This conversation expands our collective knowledge and understanding, leading to healthier, more positive connections among providers, caregivers, and individuals seeking to live freer, fuller lives.

EMPOWER THE DEAF COMMUNITY

We select studies based on their intention to advocate for the improved lives of the Deaf community. Each study undergoes approval by accredited institutional IRBs (Institutional Review Boards) to ensure ethical standards and quality.

Workshops are provided by My Deaf Therapy, offering valuable insights and strategies for personal and community growth.

Study on Alcohol Use in the Deaf Community-Amy Lambert, Doctoral Candidate

Hello! My name is Amy Lambert, and I am currently a doctoral candidate in Clinical Psychology at Gallaudet University. I am conducting my dissertation research titled "Narratives about Alcohol Use in the Deaf Community: A Qualitative Study with Deaf Adults." The focus of my research is to explore and understand the experiences of Deaf adults who have engaged with alcohol-recovery activities.

Who Can Participate in This Deaf Community Research Study?

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • Are between the ages of 29-65
  • Identify as Deaf and/or Hard-of-Hearing
  • Have experience with alcohol-recovery activities such as AA, Al-Anon, Smart Recovery, recovery coaching, or psychotherapy for alcohol use.

What Does the Alcohol Use and Recovery Study Involve?

If you meet the criteria and are selected for an interview, you will participate in a
confidential interview where you’ll share your personal experiences related to alcohol use and recovery. Your input will be invaluable to my research and the broader understanding of alcohol use and recovery within the Deaf community.

Compensation for Participation in the Deaf Community Research Study

As a token of appreciation for your time,
$50 will be provided upon completion of the interview.
