Meet Shannon

(she, her, hers)

Shannon Shiver, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker with over ten years of experience working with a diverse range of clients in a variety of clinical practice and community settings. She has gained a wealth of experience in multidisciplinary roles, where she has acted as a counselor, educator, and overall advocate of the Deaf community. As a strong endorser of community-based intervention and outreach efforts, Shannon has an appreciation for the many real-world factors that take place outside of the therapy office, and thus impact the success of advocacy service. As a clinician, she aspires to provide her clients with tools that are realistic and can be practically-applied to the surroundings they face.

Every client deserves the time and attention necessary to learn and understand the resources they have, or lack thereof, as well as the barriers they face. Shannon’s mission is to incorporate mindfulness of the context that each client lives within, and better understand how these contextual factors impact the way her clients move through the world as social beings. By offering a type of psychotherapy that enables one to heal from troubling symptoms and emotional distress, she holds great compassion and empathy for the unique struggles of the clients she encounters. Shannon has often found that clients thrive in response to support methods that are both accessible and reliable, which are paramount to facilitating community-based interventions. This success has extended to her specialization in trauma-informed support methods, such as EMDR and cognitive processing therapies. In this avenue, she places an emphasis on applying trauma-informed, strengths-based mechanisms to adult and child survivors of sexual and domestic violence, including clients in rehabilitation and other mental health settings.

Shannon aims to cultivate a safe, comfortable atmosphere for every client. By building an authentic connection between therapist and client, the client can begin to explore themselves, how they relate to others, and how they relate to their experiences in various situations. Ultimately, as a companion on each client’s journey, she leaves you to harness the tools to master a healthy adjustment in response to life’s twists and turns and move toward adaptive, healthy living.

Shannon is a Deaf therapist fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). Her pronouns are she/her/hers.
